Performance Golf Podcast

In episode #5 of the Performance Golf Podcast, golf legends Rick Smith and Sir Nick Faldo discuss the future of golf with Performance Golf’s very own Eric and Donnie.

Is this the end of pro golf as we know it? Is the PGA tour coming to a turning point?

With more than 65 million golfers worldwide currently, golf’s global growth is undeniable. However, the rise of “super golf,” where everything aims to be bigger and better, is a concern and talking point among many golfers and coaches today. Are we losing some of the classic appeal golf has relied on for decades?

There’s no doubt golf is changing, with the bustlings of a potential merger of the major golf tours ruffling some feathers. While change can be met with resistance, a unified tour could streamline competition formats and create a more cohesive global tour experience.

The podcast also touched on the rise of entertainment at golf events with tournaments straying from strictly golf, while offering live music, social events, and other attractions to engage both golf enthusiasts and casual observers.

While this approach aims to break down barriers and welcome new audiences into the sport, some who are more traditional may argue this takes away from the sport of golf itself.

Is this the end of golf as we know it?

No matter how you feel about the transformation of the golf industry, there’s no doubt it’s moving fast!
